Bagpipe player David Boggon inspired Lois and Mila to make their own DIY pipes and went on to create one of our most memorable Christmas Cracker concerts ever at Cheltenham Town Hall on Sunday afternoon (Dec 19).
He’d travelled down from Dundee to stand on the steps of Cheltenham Town Hall creating a sensation there and later inside with the ‘alcohol-fuelled’ performance of Maxwell Davies’ An Orkney Wedding and Sunrise.
Some incredible solos came from GSO leader Marie Roberts-Watkins, the woodwind, brass and our harpist, under Glyn Oxley’s baton.
The orchestra also accompanied the amazing Jackie Shewell-Thomas’s ballet dancers who performed a certain sort of magic in Coppelia (Delibes).
And to cap it all, the choral prowess of choirmasters Rachel Bowen and Ben Sawyer brought another brilliant dimension to our matinee concert for all the family, which made this Christmas particularly special as we continue to battle Covid.
