GSO members excelled themselves at last night’s superb Spring Concert which brought musical memories back for many. Visibly moved were the families (including great grandchildren) of local composers, Tony Hewitt-Jones and Michael Gryspeerdt, whose works were featured.
Michael had been a French horn player with GSO for 40 years while Tony was well known as County Music Organiser for Gloucestershire. His family have maintained his musical legacy and daughter Caroline Lumsden is founder of the Gloucestershire Academy of Music.
The second half of the concert saw the orchestra, under Glyn Oxley’s baton, perform Elgar’s Enigma Variations, adding further emotion to a memorable evening at Gloucester’s St Barnabas’ Church.
A retiring collection and sale of cakes saw £276 raised for the Stroke Association UK.
St Barnabas’ will be the venue for GSO’s Summer Concert on Saturday June 17 at 7.30pm. Many thanks to vicar and patron the Rev Sarah Todd.
